Making coastal management decisions based on collective knowledge

In preparation of the update the National Plan for Integrated Coastal Zone Management for Belize, Biosfera Desarrollos will prepare the State of the Coast Report 2014-2018. Following a participatory methodology used worldwide, our team of national and international experts will facilitate the construction of collective knowledge in regards of the current situation of species and ecosystems of Belize´s Coastal Zone, which is one of the country greatest assets and is vital to the Belizean way of life. Belize’s highly productive coastal zone is the resource base that supports a broad range of economic activities and contributes significantly to the environmental, social and cultural fabric of Belize.

This report will update the previous state of the coast reports with the information generated in between 2014 and 2018 and will asses the effectiveness of the integrated management of the coastal zone, therefore it will include the perspective and knowledge from more than 20 experts form the economic, social, environmental and academic sectors. This report is one of the components of the Marine Climate Change Adaptation Project implemented by the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute and under the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, The Environment and Sustainable Development with fiduciary management assistance from the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) whit the support of the world bank.
